TRT Rail Base System TRT 02

TRT Rail Base System is a rail-based solar mounting solution built specifically for composition shingle roofs. It replaces the traditional L-foot and flashing plate design with a cast aluminum base that adheres directly to the asphalt roof using butyl adhesive and EPDM rubber, fastened with 5/16″ x 3″ screws. Available in 7 and 14 foot rail lengths with clip-on rail fasteners, the TRT Rail Base System is UL 2703 listed, PE certified, Class A/B fire rated, and tested to ASTM D7147 and TAS 100(A) for uplift, shear load, and water penetration. For base spacing requirements, always use TRT’s PE-certified span tables.

For larger arrays or layouts that benefit from rail flexibility and integrated wire management, TRT02 delivers a repeatable, code-compliant workflow on composition shingle roofs. Before specifying your system, see how wind and snow loads affect mounting system selection for your region.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between TRT02 and a traditional rail-based mounting system? +
Traditional rail systems use an L-foot and flashing plate to attach rails to the roof. TRT02 replaces this with a cast aluminum base that adheres directly to the composition shingle using butyl adhesive and EPDM rubber, eliminating the flashing plate and reducing penetration complexity. Clip-on rail fasteners then attach the rail to the base, significantly reducing installation time compared to conventional methods.
Does TRT02 require bonding jumpers for grounding? +
TRT02 is UL 2703 listed and uses integrated bonding features through approved clamps and grounding components. Installers must still follow the TRT installation manual for required grounding lugs, bonding jumpers, and grounding conductors as specified in the project electrical design.
How do I determine base and rail spacing for TRT02? +
Base and rail spacing for TRT02 is determined by TRT's PE-certified span tables, which account for local wind speed, ground snow load, panel configuration, and roof structure. Do not use field estimates or generic spacing values. Request stamped calculations for your specific project if required by the AHJ.
What sealant should be used with TRT02 bases? +
TRT02 bases use butyl adhesive and EPDM rubber as the primary sealing method. Only butyl-compatible roofing sealants approved by the TRT installation manual should be used where additional sealant is required. Silicone sealants and lubricants are not compatible with the butyl system and must never be used with TRT02.
